Creating the Perfect Neutral Interior

Follow along on my Pinterest for more home inspiration and our plans for our new house

Our homes in the past have always been infused with color, bold print and patterns, and lots of artwork (you can see our previous home tours here, here, and here), but this time around I’m finding myself wanting to create a completely different type of space. Maybe it’s being right on the ocean or how this house of ours is conducive to indoor-outdoor living, but I’m currently drawn to rooms that have bright white walls, warm and neutral materials, and a mixture of wood and woven textures.

Picking neutral pieces means I won’t tire of them quickly, allowing me to invest more in staple pieces and easily change up the look by switching out simple accents such as throw pillows and blankets, art, and decor pieces. We have a large open floor plan where our kitchen, dining, and living room are all combined into one great room and I am currently working to pull this space together, starting with the dining area. I’ve included my inspiration for the space below (I’m going with a neutral bohemian dining room) and how you can recreate the look yourself!

What do you think of the space??

Mom + Me Halloween Costumes with Pottery Barn Kids

The boys and I were asked by our friends Cassidy and Riley to share some Mom + Me Halloween costume ideas in collaboration with Pottery Barn Kids because really is there anything cuter than a coordinating family costume concept for Halloween?

I mean, as parents we obviously can’t participate in the trick-or-treating, so why not be one of the fun parents and dress up with your little one. After four years of coordinating costumes (super heroes, pumpkins, Curious George characters, Mickey Mouse and friends), I would consider us to be almost pros at family-coordinating Halloween costumes by now, but I think this year might just take the cake since it’s not only a kid concept, but something adults can totally get as well.

Mother of Dragons and Dragon Entourage…

So in all honesty, when Cassidy told me what she wanted me to be, my first thought was “oh cute”  a mom and baby dragons. My mind did not immediately go to the Emmy-winning television show Game of Thrones (gasp! I know…let’s blame it on the sleepless nights or mommy brain or something like that). And then, I realized that I was Khaleesi with my own little entourage of dragons and I decided it was the coolest “mommy” costume for the moment because it’s relevant for the adults, but a concept kids love as well for an entirely different reason.

If you can’t tell from the images, Holden LOVES his dragon costume. Since this photoshoot Holden has basically lived in it, wearing it the grocery store, the playground, museums…everywhere….despite the heat wave we have been experiencing in Southern California. He even won a costume contest with it!  And it’s not even Halloween yet.

EASY LUXURIES

easyluxuries
I like my Mondays to be easy without any added fuss.  Mondays usually mean a slow start to the morning and an afternoon taking care of our weekly errands, so I try to keep the getting-ready portion of my day as simple as possible.  I am constantly looking for easy ways to upgrade my look without expending a lot of extra effort and it’s your lucky Monday because today, I am sharing them with you.  Below are four of my favorite shortcuts to glamorizing your everyday attire.

Get the Look ::

A chunky necklace :: necklace // emerald baseball long-sleeved tee // Bel & Beau “Miss” Mini Skirt in Onyx // Flat black booties

A bold lip :: red lipstick // black and white striped sweater // black denim // leopard loafers

A patterned coat :: leopard coat // celfie sweatshirt // jeans // flats

A pop of color :: red purse // gray sweater // Bel & Beau “Mrs.” Maxi Skirt in Onyx // over-the-knee boots

THE SKIRT THAT STARTED IT ALL

This is the skirt that launched the idea.  This image is where the concept for Bel & Beau skirts all started.  Stumbling around Pinterest one day, I came across the ensemble pictured above and I couldn’t seem to get it out of my head.  I had already been on the hunt for some dressy maxi skirts that I could add to my wardrobe and this image just added fuel to that fire.  At first, it needed to be emerald, but when I couldn’t find anything remotely similar to an emerald maxi skirt that wasn’t made out of chiffon, I searched for any color. And yet I still couldn’t find anything even remotely similar unless it had at least $1000 price tag on it.  I quickly realized that the dressy maxi skirts that were currently on the market were no where near affordable (or at least for my budget) and so I decided to make one for myself.

I went to Stacie and she knew immediately knew the image I was talking about.  We went to work making my first sample skirt and it was exactly what I had been dreaming of wearing.  Although I love each and every skirt from the Bel & Beau collection, I think my heart will always hold a special place for The Mrs. Maxi Skirt in Emerald.
